Advice: How to write a cover letter

Cover letters can be exhausting. You already said everything on your resume, right? Why do you need more?

In 2022, many people don’t need a cover letter. Some companies are not requiring them. Despite that, a well-crafted cover letter can still be valuable for applicants who lack direct experience in an industry, are changing careers, or are entry-level workers.

A good cover letter can explain your interest and passion, fill in gaps, and help tell your career story in a cohesive, focused narrative. Along with a results-focused resume and a portfolio with examples of your accomplishments, a cover letter can help round out your application package.

Every cover letter should be customized to the job, just like a resume. You can have a few core paragraphs about yourself and swap out the introduction and other key sections.
